WHO SHOULD YOU TRUST?

When it comes to hormone therapy, finding a legitimate and experienced specialist can make all the difference between success and frustration.  New testosterone clinics seem to be popping up everywhere.  Trying to figure out which is best for you can feel almost impossible.

Don’t lose hope.  There are qualified and ethical specialists out there, it just takes a little more effort to find them.

Here are 8 important things to consider when trying to find a legitimate men’s health clinic:

What to consider:

The clinics website should answer these 3 questions:

1.  Does the website tell you who will be treating you and what their credentials are? – At a minimum, the website should tell you who will be treating you and how long they have been practicing medicine.

2.  What kind of training has the specialist received? – Hormone therapy is not taught in medical school. Your clinician should have some level of specialized training in treating testosterone deficiency.

3.  Are they focused on testosterone optimization?  – Many clinics will try to be all things to all people.  If they seem to offer multiple different services (medical weight loss, Botox injections, laser treatments), you might want to consider looking elsewhere.

This is a difficult, if not impossible question to answer when you are new to a clinic.  Confidence only comes from experience with your specialist.  You may be able to gather some level of trust by reading through their website.

We think confidence is earned. This is why we do not charge anything for the initial consultation.  We want you to be able to meet with us, get comfortable and see if we are right for you.  There are no high pressure sales tactics or gimmicky promises.  We believe telling the truth about how hormones affect your health is enough.

We will make every effort to be sure all your questions are answered and you are comfortable with the process before you make any commitments.  In addition, you should feel free to call or email us before you come in.  You will be able to speak directly with a specialist and have your questions answered.

*  In the interest of being upfront, our in-depth blood panel is fairly expensive . The cost is $125 for the blood work.  This is only charged if you wish to proceed with the blood test.  There is no obligation to get your blood tested with us.  You are free to take your time to think before proceeding to the next step.  You can even meet with other clinics and come back to us if you think we are a good fit for you.

To best treat your condition, your clinician should make an effort to determine what is causing your testosterone deficiency.  This is the most important step in testosterone therapy for the following reasons:

1.  It will allow your specialist to determine if you are a candidate for alternative therapies that increase testosterone, other than testosterone replacement therapy.

2.  It will help your clinician determine the correct kind of testosterone therapy for you and your situation.

3.  It will give your doctor critical information on how you will process and react to testosterone, once you start therapy.

4.  You need to rule out other causes of testosterone deficiency. For example a prolactinoma.

We make every effort to determine the root cause of your testosterone deficiency.  We will customize the treatment to your specific type of low T and work to refine your therapy over time.

Testosterone replacement therapy is not always the right treatment for every patient.  You should be aware that there are alternative medications that can stimulate your bodies natural production of testosterone.  While this does not work for every man with testosterone deficiency, your specialist will be able to determine if you are a candidate, after they review your bloodwork.  Which path you ultimately choose is up to you, but we promise to review all your options in detail.

Alternative testosterone optimization therapy is especially critical if you wish to maintain your fertility or if you are a younger man with low testosterone.  While there are medications (like HCG), that can help maintain sperm production once you start taking testosterone, there is no guarantee you maintain your fertility.  Also younger men tend to have ‘testicular reserve’, and with proper medication can continue to produce optimal hormone levels for years before they need to consider TRT.

We are all busy with work and personal life.  Many clinics will require you to come in weekly or monthly to receive your medications.  This is not only inconvenient, it is unnecessary.

We are able to ship your medications securely to your home, so you can avoid frequent trips to the clinic.  Testosterone therapy shouldn’t be a burden. It should fit in easily with your busy life.

We are always here for any problems or questions that may come up. If you want to drop in and discuss an issue face-to-face, just contact us and we will set it up.  Our policy is to always have an “open door”.

A thorough and routine monitoring program is critical for success and safety with hormone therapy.  Many clinics will only perform cursory blood work, in order to keep their cost low.  We think this does you a disservice, and can even do harm.

We employ thorough and regular blood work to be sure you are getting the most out of your treatment and avoiding any of the pitfalls that can occur.  We also customize your blood panel to your specific situation, since each patient has different needs.

We include the comprehensive bloodwork with your therapy and there is no extra cost to you.

Protocols are a double edged sword.

One one hand they provide your clinicians with a set of guidelines in order to treat you.  You may think that is optimal however, protocols are often used as a substitute for actual critical thinking and experience.  They are often used by large testosterone clinics, who have high turn-over in their medical providers.  They use a protocol as a substitute for training and experience.  If your medical provider is unsure what to do, or how to adjust your dosage, they resort to their protocol.

Unfortunately, we are all unique and we do not respond to testosterone therapy in the same way.  If your provider is only using a protocol, then they will treat you just like the patient before and the patient before them.

This does not provide the best results.   Only an experienced and highly trained provider will understand how to effectively adjust or alter your treatment plan based on your lab results and specific symptoms.

You may be aware that testosterone replacement therapy has several different delivery methods.  These include injections, topical creams/gels, and pellets.  You may ask yourself why are there different methods of administering testosterone therapy?

This is because each patient will respond differently to each delivery method.  While injections may work well for one man, topical creams may be more effective for another.  This is why having a choice of delivery method is important.  At The Veritas Clinic we provide testosterone injections and topical creams.  Our experience tells us that these methods are superior to other methods of testosterone replacement.

We do not provide or recommend testosterone pellet therapy.  Pellets have proven to be problematic for many different reasons and are not advised.

Should you trust us?

While we think we are the best option when it comes to hormone optimization, we believe you should be able to decide for yourself.  That is why there is no cost to speak with us.  You are welcome to talk with us in person or by phone.  We will make every effort to answer your questions and help you get comfortable with how we can help you.  There is no obligation to become a patient and there are no pushy sales tactics.  We only give you the truth.

In addition, there is no charge for the initial evaluation with the specialist.  You can come in and sit down with the specialist and get to know us.  If and when you are ready to move forward, we only collect a $135 fee to cover your blood work. Unfortunately, we do not accept health insurance at this time.

James Thomas PA-c
Owner / clinical manager / hrt specialist

For as long as I can remember, I have been interested in how the body works and how to slow the aging process.  After years of research, I came to the realization that hormone optimization therapy is a key piece of the puzzle to help prevent age related diseases.  After a 15 year career in orthopedic surgery, I decided to follow my passion in treating testosterone deficiency.  I have seen the positive impact hormone therapy has had on the hundreds of patients I have treated.

I created The Veritas Clinic with the goal of raising the bar of what a men’s health clinic should be.
